Charlie green was a young man when he got into training his first lab, Maggie. In fact, when he signed her up for their first Hunt Test together - they didn't do too well; but, Charlie wouldn’t be leaving empty handed that day. Charlie took his time observing the other dogs & trainers testing when one who was doing particularly well caught his eye and he knew he needed to talk to him. The gentleman was kind enough to spend some time with young Charlie - evaluating Maggie, gave him some tips on how to be successful, and recommended a book to get him going. Spirits lifted, Charlie left feeling good about all that he had learned and was ready to get to work. Page by page, Charlie & Maggie learned how to become a passing Champion Retriever team!

Before long, Charlie was ready to train a new pup! He added Annie to the team & boy was she special. She could step on marks & he championed her out at the young age of 11 months old with big plans to send her on the Grand that very year! However; that was not to be the case for Annie. She developed intestinal cancer and the Green family had to let her go. Charlie bought another pup shortly after, put an HR Title on her as well, but he was still heartbroken over the loss of Annie & his heart wasn’t in dog training like it had been. With his kids growing up and playing sports, Charlie took a break from the dogs and coached for his kids’ baseball teams & focused on his career at Lone Star Steel where he served for 28 years.

During this time, Charlie trained off and on through the years for different people as way to make a little extra money but the thought always lingered in the back of his mind - did he have what it takes to make it as a Pro Trainer?

Then the time came.. For graduation, Charlie’s youngest son, Hayden, asked for a lab of his own. Charlie was hesitant in the beginning, knowing firsthand the amount of work involved, but eventually gave in and Hayden got Maggie. No doubt named after & in honor of Charlie’s first lab. Immediately Charlie, Hayden, & Maggie got busy training & it didn’t take long for Charlie to realize - training Maggie was just as good for Hayden as it was for her!

Soon after, a client approached Charlie with a lab, Gracie, to enroll in Obedience Training. Even though these clients were not hunters themselves, it was noted that this lab had spunk. And just 2 weeks after bringing her home from Obedience Training, they quickly realized their indoor lifestyle was not a good fit for Gracie’s energy - they offered her to Charlie. As if fate hadn’t intervened enough, the Green’s later found out that Gracie & Maggie (Hayden’s new pup) were litter mates! Charlie immediately refunded the client & took Gracie as his own. By the end of that year - Charlie & Hayden had worked Gracie & Maggie up to Hunter Retriever Champions!

A few months later, US Steel (previously Lone Star Steel) announced they were closing the steel mill where Charlie had been employed & for the first time in 28 years, Charlie was left without a job. At the young age of 50, he decided starting over with a new employer wasn’t in the cards and chose to pursue the life of a Professional Dog Trainer. Charlie and Hayden began Green’s retrievers in 2020 and haven’t looked back since! Through the grace & guidance of God, Charlie has employed the best team to love & train the dogs that come through the Green’s Facility and is grateful for the love and support of his wife, Windy Green, family, & friends!
